Why I Jade Roll

January 24, 2018

So. If you would’ve told me that I would look forward to an ice cold jade roller every morning the way I do my morning coffee I would’ve laughed in your face– until I tried it. This all started with me rambling on my IG story (what else is new) about how I wake up with a swollen face in the morning. Leave it to you guys (who have literally never failed me when I ask for advice/tips) and my inbox was flooded with messages suggesting different things. “Drink more water”– I drink too much water. “Use essential oils”– I do. Jade Roll– um, what is jade rolling? It doesn’t hurt that the person who suggested jade rolling is a stunning (she’s a model in real life, not just IG world) human being inside and out. I asked her a few questions about it and figured why the heck not and ordered myself a two pack.

Not only are they aesthetically pleasing to look at– they feel freaking phenomenal on your skin. I did some research of my own and to be so honest, I was shocked to learn that something as simple as a cold piece of jade rolling across your skin can truly reverse aging, decrease inflammation and so much more.

I’ve gotten quite a few questions about this whole thing– so, I figured I would just sit down and write a quick post to answer some of the most common questions and share a bit of information.

Before you start rolling your eyes at the following research– just give it a try and keep an open mind. It may be for you, it may not be for you– but, either way, a little bit of education never hurt anybody.

If you are into crystals, you will know that jade is associated with protecting against negative energy. If you are anything like me, you know that energy is a REAL thing. I have become really protective of the energy that I allow around myself and my family, so, if this little piece of jade can help with that, consider me sold.

If that just freaked you out enough to not even consider this practice– allow me to share: according to Ling Chan (esthetician and one of the main forces behind the recent explosion in this trend) “something as simple as moving the jade across your skin assists in increasing blood circulation, assists in lymphatic drainage, and helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.” SOLD.

Our facial muscles store a lot of tension, and believe it or not, we carry a lot of stress in our faces. I have found that the cooling sensation of the jade first thing in the morning has really helped me to relax and to recognize just how much tension I carried there without even realizing it. This simple daily practice has made me recognize throughout the day when I am furrowing my brow, wrinkling my forehead, etc. It doesn’t hurt that I also notice an immediate increase in the “brightness” of my skin upon finishing.

I learned that using a jade roller on your face is a great way to help the absorption of any facial products that you apply. I have found myself using the roller mostly in the morning to assist with reducing puffiness, but after doing some research of my own and learning about the increase in product absorption, I think I am going to start working my roller into my nighttime routine as well– because, we all know that I am all about getting the most out of my products and my money.

When you are using your roller you want to make sure to roll in upward and outward motions. Do this “up & out” three times per area of your face. I’ve found that the entire process takes as little as 2 minutes, but it feels amazing and I tend to draw it out as long as I possibly can!

Like with any product out there– you get what you pay for. Do a quick search on the internet and you’ll see that jade rollers come in a variety of prices, some as inexpensive as $9 and ranging to $90. I consider myself somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to beauty trends (even though this has been a beauty secret of Emperors for centuries)– and I always like to give something a try before investing money. I will go ahead and tell you this– I enjoy this so much that I am probably going to invest in a higher end roller someday in the future, but, for now– these cheaper rollers are working just fine!

I love that these rollers have two different sizes– I use the larger one for my cheeks and forehead and then the smaller side for around my eyes, nose and mouth. I store them in my freezer in a baggie! I personally notice a few changes in my skin immediately following the use of my roller. I notice that my skin isn’t nearly as puffy as it was prior, that I have a nice rosy glow (thanks to the increase in circulation) and that my skin looks and feels tighter than before I started. I always apply my products prior to using my roller and I notice that once I finish the products have literally vanished from my skin (because they were pressed into my pores during rolling)– so, i’ll add a bit more moisturizer and call it a day!

If jade rolling sounds like something that you’d like to try, I have linked below a variety of jade rollers, all at different price points! As always, feel free to ask me questions and to do a little research of your own!
